Our Bickley community dates back to 1947 when the property was purchased as the Provincial Administration and a centre for ‘late Vocations'. It welcomed ex-servicemen who wished to be missionary priests, including many of the current residents. The ‘late Vocations' centre closed in the early 60's and the Community continued to serve as the Provincial Administration centre until this was transferred to north west London in 1990. Then the building was adapted to be more practical for the care for our increasingly elderly members.
Today, the majority are retired Spiritan Missionaries. It is, however, still a lively community; welcoming Spiritan Missionaries in transit through London, and those wishing stay for a well-earned rest while on leave from the missions. This enables the residents to keep alive their former missionary links and renew old friendships and acquaintances
The community also houses several Provincial Offices and departments, including the MissionWide editorial Office; the Parish Mission Appeal Office, which handles the main fund raising programmes of the Province and the Provincial Archives. Missionwide subscriptions and donations are also dealt with here
The Bickley Association, attached to the community, consists of friends of the community who, over the past 60 years, have given tremendous practical and spiritual support to the community and to missionary projects of the Spiritans throughout the world.
In May 2009 we celebrated 50 years of liturgy and worship in the Chapel at Bickley. Much of the preparation labour, digging foundations etc was carried out by the students at the time, some of whom are one more in residence in Bickley, having retired from active ministry.
